Hysterism
I work with paintings as constructions often using a collage like painting technique, where I paint, cut up, over paint and move around pieces. In this sense my pieces are often not only thematically related but actually contains physical pieces of each other. By experimenting and playing with colour, materials, textures and patterns my work aims at evoking desire within the viewer. The work approaches an alternative universe, like a parallel world, with a compelling yet disturbing sense of otherness.
Inspired by psychoanalysis ideas about hysteria I thrive to balance my work method as shifting between controlling the process and giving up control -letting the materials and the form of the work itself take over and develop. The process then becomes a play and a struggle between Super ego and Id, between unconscious process and managing conscious decisions. This struggle or gap within the artwork is essential in giving the work its potential.
