A piece of interactive video art, projected on the ceiling of the archway underneath the Manhattan bridge, as part of the Dumbo Arts Festival 2010. The projections interactively respond to the sound of the subway trains rolling by overhead… or to the voices of those inside the archway. Designed as a response to the site, but also influenced by some basic elements of superstring theory, the piece was a play on the vibrating ’strings’ of theoretical physics, and notions of hidden other dimensions, the piece took the fundamental patterns that make up our planet (cell structures, branching patterns found in nature), and then allowed the vibrations of sound to open them up to reveal glacial landscapes.
