The End of Silence

The work is a hommage to Guy Debord, founder of the Situationist movement and author of The Society of the Spectacle which triggered the 1968 student uprising in Paris. In the book Debord points out media as responsible for the alientaion of contemporary man.

Debord writes, “Society broadcasts to itself its own image of its own history, a history reduced to a superficial and static pageant of its rulers – the persons who embody the apparent inevitability of whatever happens.“

By taking images out of context he sought to take away media meaning and allow for a critical view of the image mix taken from popular culture. The End of Silence uses images from Debords films, which now have become part of cultural history, and blend them together so that they loose their original meaning.
