Kännihurmos

"Kännihurmos" (Finn. translation: drunk ecstasy) explores the theme of ecstasy and spirituality. In the search box in Youtube, I typed in Finnish slang words for ”drunk”. From among the hundreds of Youtube videos that showed up, I picked the ones where the drunkenness had clearly reached a higher level of ecstasy. I made drawings based on those videos and I use the drawings as a guide for reenacting gestures of drunken ecstasy. I perform "Kännihurmos" as a workshop/performance where the audience participates in reenacting the gestures. The volunteers from the audience can either reenact the gestures themselves, in which case I coach them, or they can aid me by holding up parts of my body. In this way, we build a collective installation, in which we share the aspiration to something higher than ourselves or the vodka we drink.
