TIMEPIECE: BE_HERE_NOW [TIME IS MOTION OF THE MIND]

Installation, Minimal, Portrait, Still life, Video installation, 18x12x6cm
Fooled by our own mind, both mirrors and time are illusions of our perception. While conceiving TIMEPIECE, there were 3 significant ideas in my mind: floating sentences about time, mirroring oneself and last, through visuals + sound I would make time tangible. The viewer confronts several things simultaneously, the image of herself, the written concepts on time and time itself. In 60 seconds, each phrase dissolves like vapor as ephemeral phrases written on the mirror. Next, 60 vertical bars start appearing from left to right one by one, making time an object to be gazed upon. This is accompanied by the sound of a sonar that marks the passage of time. To read the phrases the viewer is almost forced to look at herself rendering an intimate confrontation with the idea of time -do you have a minute to yourself? Formally, the piece makes reference to the bathroom vanity cabinets. There is also the idea of time as death, thus the fear of running out of life (time). In zen tradition, Time only exists in our own mind.
