Serial Reproduction
The piece consists of a series of 31 Jesus figures arranged linearly on top of a shelve. The first one –a religious souvenir bought in a popular market in Mexico City– serves as a model for casting in resin the next iteration, then each figure is casted using as a model the result of the previous iteration. By continuously reproducing an already reproduced object, the imperfection of the process is thus amplified, allowing the figures to slowly mutate, shrink and redefine themselves in an autonomous way.
The outcome is a series of unique objects that can only be understood when seen as a part of a whole and not as independent parts.
