Casino Royale

Apollo’s first love was Daphne, daughter of Peneus, who resembled Diana the hunter, running through the forest with her bow and arrow, her hair flying in the wind.
The women that I show in these paintings are instead carefully groomed; they do not look like untameable virgins; actually, at first glance, they appear to be reassuring, refined ladies.
With sophisticated hairdos, a sign of elegance, they offer a sense of order and perfection that is broken by a dangerous detail: the firearms held firmly in their hands.
Beginning with this idiosyncrasy, I took apart and reassembled the still images I used as a source for my work.
In this series, I used films dating from 1929 to 1960, mostly black-and-white, about private detectives, called, in jargon, “hardboiled detectives”.
