The Dead Die (vol. III)
collection is continually growing. Each photo depicts dead people. These pictures come from various
sources: e.g. from police archives, forensic pathology, news or films, theatre, advertisements, etc.
It is unclear whether the scenes portray a real or a staged death; the pictures chosen makes
distinguishing between the two categories very difficult.
The collection is divided into volumes of 80 slides each. The slides were not put into chronological /
historical sequence but were instead chosen arbitrarily. A specific condition of this work is to maintain
the anonymity of the origin of the pictures; neither the viewer nor the participants of the project know
the sources of all the pictures.
Technically, The Dead Die is an installation with a small rear projection inside. The screen hangs from
the ceiling of a 4x8 m black box. The walls are dark grey as well as the carpet. It is even possible to
walk all around the screen (which is suspended at shoulder height), watching the projection from behind.
