Installation, Still life, Plastic, 400x200x200cm
The overall plan is based around the images of two human faces – a male one and a female one. Both faces are made from the same material (latex), which enables a realistic imprint of both the individuals, and these are subsequently reproduced many times. These elastic latex masks can appear to resemble items of clothing, perhaps personal belongings or underwear. The use of pigmentation in the material, which evokes human skin, makes the illusion perfect and means that the author is able to stipulate different rules for their appreciation. The “belongings” of the human faces become merely things – although they have a specific human expression, they have no living content. This gives the faces a different meaning. They become merely a product. The artist hangs the individual masks on washing lines and secures them with clothes pegs. experience. With the right lighting the shadows of the masks create a second scheme on the walls of the circumscribed space, which strengthens the perception effect. T
