Retake - The Holy Family
I am proposing the two works 'Retake- The Holy Family" and "Pornographic Interior 3" because the two works together bring out the way I use the presence and the absence of the human body as a conceptual structure through my work.
In "Retake", I have re-intepreted the "Mother and Child" motif that is key to western art history but placed a self-portrait of myself and a child in their place with a consequent change in gendering, ethnicity and historical period. It is an uncertain assertion of the "other" self within a place of a dominant visual regime. Both works ask, both positively and negatively: what exactly is it that we've become?
