Untitled (myself)
My prime concept with my paintings is to reveal the spirituality of objects, and to explore the universal idea of life and death, by examining the role of supernatural things and spiritualism in our modern societies. This is greatly influenced by Japanese animism such as Shinto, Japanese traditional animism which believes that all things have their own spirits. By bringing highly personal and meditative aspects into my artworks dealing with human figures, I have been investigating an original and creative way to prompt viewers to rethink and contemplate on the importance of spirituality in human life.
This idea comes from my keen interest in the important role of supernatural things in human life. I investigate the reason why we cannot ignore those uncertain and invisible things in our rational, technological, and capitalistic modern societies. I am also interested in the meanings of minds and feelings for human life, and how emotions like sorrow and fear come about.
