BrainCell is a piece inspired by Ibsen’s play Gengangere (Ghosts, 1881). Darkness is on stage, representing the shadowy side of our conscience and its infinite contradictions. The padded walls of this installation recall an isolation cell. Inside, a woman’s voice can be heard talking freely and incessantly “to herself”. Her voice is like a recording of thoughts in a stream of consciousness. A video animation on the ceiling shows a brain in the process of twisting until it is completely distorted before returning to its normal shape once again.
