Biography

Christy Jenn Smolenski grew up in Newbury Park, California in the Southern Californian region. Since she was young she has been a passionate artist. Her mom taught her jewelry and drawing throughout her childhood years. She begun playing the flute at nine and at eleven she pursued hip hop dance lessons. At fifteen she enrolled in her first drawing classes at the California Art Institute. Her passion of the fine arts drove her to study Pictorial Arts at San Jose State University. She studied abroad in Florence, Italy at L'Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze where she studied painting with Professor Umberto Borella and printmaking with Professor Patrizia Contardi. During her two years studying abroad she exhibited in three art shows with Californian and international students. Her work ranges in style and expression in respect to the medium selected. Fine details are seen in her charcoal drawings whereas in her watercolors she is only concerned with expression and color. Currently her work is focused on expressionism and impressionism executed in the impasto style with oil paint. This artist’ passion is seen throughout her work and beautifully evokes audience’s emotions and thoughts.
