FACES #metamorphosis
The face is more than the lifelike reproduction of the person portrayed. The face is subject to constant change through expression and facial expressions and even in minimalist representation we look for the individual characteristics and personality of the depicted.
It shows captured snapshots of stories about lust, revenge, passion, family dramas, striving for power – it is the surface we show to the outside world and the most communicative part of the human body.
It combines the individuality and identity of man compressed into a small area of physical human appearance and stands for itself.
The face is subject to uninterrupted metamorphosis. (Elisabeth Rass, 2022)
APPLICATION
• The application is open to the media: painting, graphic - art, drawing, photography, video - art, animation, multimedia
• No application fee!
• The submitted artworks must correspond to the exhibition theme!
• Each artist can apply with 2 artworks.
• Size of the artworks 40 x 30 cm (upright or vertical format) inclusive frame (no glass!). The size is bindig!
The application must include the following documents:
• PHOTO OF THE SUBMITTED ARTWORK - JPEG 2000 pixels, resolution 300 pixels/inch
• VIDEO ART, ANIMATION – still - picture or link to the video
• BIOGRAPHY AND ARTIST STATEMENT (for every single artwork referring to the exhibition theme)
• COMPLETED AND SIGNED DATA SHEET
• COMPLETE AND SIGNED APPLICATION FORM
• ALL EXHIBITED WORKS MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE. THE SELLING PRICE SHALL BE DETERMINED BY THE ARTIST.
Only fully completed and submitted applications will be considered by the selection committee.
VENUE
The BIENNALE AUSTRIA exhibition entitled "FACES #metamorphosis" will take place during the 59th Venice Art Biennale 2022 from October 15 -25, 2022 at SPAZIO SV – CENTRO ESPOSITIVO SAN VIDAL Scoletta di San Zaccaria, Campo San Zaccaria, Venice, Italy.
The Scoletta San Zaccaria was founded in the 9th century and is one of the oldest buildings in Venice in the Castello district. It is located between Piazza San Marco and the Arsenal and the Giardini (exhibition space of the Biennale Venezia). The gallery has existed since 1949 and is run by the Italian art association U.C.A.I.
The gallery was completely renovated in 2018.
SELECTION
The selection of exhibiting artists will be made by the selection committee of BIENNALE AUSTRIA association until mid-May 2022. The artists selected for the presentation will be informed by e-mail.
PARTICIPATION FEE
The prorated exhibition fee is Euro 400 per artist.
The participation fee includes:
• PUBLICATION ON THE BIENNALE AUSTRIA WEBSITE - photo of the submitted artwork, artist statement, link to the artist’s website
• EXHIBITION INVITATION as PDF and JPEG
• INTERNATIONAL PRESS WORK (German, English, Italian)

• A digital exhibition catalogue will be published (printing data will be sent via WeTransfer)
• The digital exhibition catalogue is integrated on the BIENNALE AUSTRIA website and promoted on the www and social media channels.
