Its hard to believe as I write this that I was in such a beautiful city in blissful sunshine, only days ago, whilst the UK is deciding if it is summer or not.
I arrived on the Friday and that evening there was a Artists party in a spectacular venue called Mirabe. The party was on a balcony in Barcelona at the end of Avienda Tibidabo where Tramvia Blau leads you. In the mountains with Stunning views, as the sun set the streets below illuminated with headlamps of cars and street lamps. It was lovely to see fellow Debut Contemporary artist Walter Koch at the party who was also exhibiting at Barcelona Showcase 2012.
The following day was the big event, Barcelona Showcase 2012 at Casa Batlló
on Passeig de Gràcia,
We arrived early to set up and make sure everything was how we wanted, so very many artists all working hard prior to the doors being opened to the public.
It was a very grand event with bouncers on the doors, so very many artists all working hard and all filled with anticipation.
It was a pleasure to meet some very talented artists like Sue Skitt, Ian Barrington, Mourl Ferryman & Luis Torrents to name a few. It was also great to see Walter Koch exhibiting his latest body of work.Once open to the public there was great interest, our brochures and business cards were at a table near the entrance and I am told 2000 visitors came to the exhibition.
I spoke with many visitors and artists during the day and the feedback was amazing. This was the biggest exhibition with over 100 artists I had been part of.
By 2pm I was running out of business cards.
I would stand back and watch to see who stopped and looked, then introduce myself. It was lovely to see so many take an interest in my work, taking my brochures & photographing my work….what a feeling! What was truly amazing for me was the feedback, even with a language barrier with some viewers we were able to communicate and it seemed my work was universal, and appealed to genders, all ages and cultures.
It was a very long day but a great experience in a very Beautiful City. I will be back to explore with my camera in the not too distant future!
