Stendardi d'acqua (Banners of Water) - Siena (Italy)
24 October 2017
Cloister of San Marco Monastery, Siena (Italy)
October 28, 2017 - December 31, 2017

The Municipality of Siena proposes the exhibition Stendardi d'acqua (Banners of Water) in the fifteenth century cloister of the San Marco Monastery (Via San Marco 90), as it lends itself extraordinarily to the presence of numerous tugs and no wind. The banners have a strong visual impact and have become the object of artistic production.
The exhibition will be part of the event entitled "2nd edition of the Open Day" of San Marco complex.

The theme chosen is water, understood in all its declinations without any limit. The theme chosen by the Municipality of Siena is based on the exhibition of wood models of the Siena sources by Bernardino Barbetti in the second half of the nineteenth century, that takes place simultaneously in other part of the complex, as well as the photographic exhibition dedicated to Sienese Bottini, to underline the great importance that water has had in the history of the city.

The idea of the exhibition is based on the representation of water, not in documentary form, but leaving the imagination free and inviting 29 artists, graphic artists and photographers to propose each one an image related to the theme. A huge range of images and an absolute relief has been released, however, given the difficulty of working on images of dimensions of 210x75 cm.
