Blindness - personal exhibition by Carmen Sarbu (Review)
25 January 2015
“ Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita, mi ritrovai per una selva oscura, chè la dritta via era smarrita”.

It is not a case of opening this review with the first three verses of the Divine Comedy. The power of art is able to combine a variety of matters touching on deep in the life of a man, leaving an indelible mark. For many artists that sign done with brush and colors on a canvas isn't only the release of their creativity, but establishes a real investiture: the artist becomes Vate, a guide to be followed so that humans can achieve happiness.

The artist Carmen Sarbu is our guide in the long journey of human life, where there are lots of dangers and choices can depart from the straight path. The protagonists of his drawings and watercolors are many asexual figures in continuos movement: in a group as if they spoke, or as if they had lost and not be able to find the way. Moreover, these figures are bandaged, almost as if they are playing a lot on their fate, in a time and space that we can not know. The artist represents a blind model of society, unable to see those values which are the basis for the achievement of the supreme good of humanity.

Her paintings play with light-dark contrast: the shadow of these figures contrasted with bright background on which are projected, almost inviting the viewer to get the bandage from his eyes. His paintings do not have a happy ending; his figures do not ever take the blindfold because the humanity is not yet ready to see the stars. The art has invested the artist of a mission: drive this lost society to the full knowledge of what surrounds it, to the ends of the world. Who then better than her, who was born in Romania, lives and works in Italy, and thanks to his work can visit the Europe; Spain, Greece and France, absorbing and balancing cultures and traditions. Only an artist worthy of note for sensitivity and sweetness is able to give hope to this company, which alone would fail to return to see. His paintings are the equivalent of the Divine Comedy by Dante, the testimony of an extra sensory world, the manifesto that enacts a new spiritual and physical renewal in which each of us may recognize and act as a witness to the new generations.

A special praise goes to the gallery owner Eugenio Santoro, who with the experience of a lifetime devoted to art managed perfectly to mix his curious eye of talent scouts and his methodical eye, sign of awareness of what he wants in his "home gallery". Of Carmen Sarbu hit him this intersection between the figurative and the abstract, which considers the greatest completeness of an artist; but the element that has characterized is the willingness to collaborate with him, and this is proof that in life one must not only be good but also simple collaborative to create beautiful things.

Skill, spontaneity, tenderness, sensitivity and severity. These are, along with many others, the elements that make up the figure of the artist Sarbu: art for she is a vocation that serves as a warning to society in a world that is changing without us realize. His paintings invite us to consider the idea that only art, it is no longer love, is able to move the Sun and other stars
