The deceptive time deformation - Personal exhibition by Filippo M. Prandi (review)
22 March 2015
Act 1 - The preparation

Close your eyes. Clear your mind from all thoughts. Done? Well, you are invited to live a unique experience, because what you will see is pure magic. And, believe it or not, this magic is generated by a regular camera, which with a simple click can bring to life the fearsome - or let you choose the most appropriate term - ancestral fear that each of us had as a child: the apparition of ghosts.

Because Filippo M. Prandi, as a good magician, makes us relive those moments that as children we always feared, or challenged, as good daredevils. Light, form and colour. These are the main ingredients of the technique of Prandi, able to bring back to life those events that with the naked eye no one would be able to see. All the credit belong to his camera and to the Light Painting, that make us discover ghost stories impregnated of social and public life of the blazing New York . People who in their appearances are carriers of messages that make them relive, as if their souls come back through the camera to look, gratify or disapprove themselves, like they had left of pending matters. They are women and men who are living this transformation – the absence of a body - almost as if they were evaporating, with a lightness that Prandi manages to capture by the fleeting shot of its index. Carnal souls, reflected and feed on their past of real men and women.

Act 2 - The frenzy

Now comes the moment that everyone was waiting, one in which every spectator who attends a sleight says: "well, where is the trick?" And it is here that the artist wants to get there, this is where you show your cards when under each photograph we can find the negatives, demonstrating that there is no trick and there is no deception.Photoshop this time lost for art, for want of a demiurge artist who managed to give birth from darkness of a room the magic, the real one, the one that sends us delirious whenever the magician raises his hands and the audience applauded.

Act 3 - The end or the begin of the game?

Prandi, full of tales of Edgar Allan Poe, increasingly mature his artist bringing up his ideas and concepts. He study, document himself, browse: he is never sated by experience, he wants to leave a mark on the history of photography. His photos have to explode its own charge, he wants to bring to the extreme pleasure this transformation.

The artist does fall every time space barrier wall, bringing his favorite themes in his Light Painted, the figure of double and mirror that materialize before our eyes, in contrast to this world full of conjectures, too self-righteous to reformulate for itself a new conception of life made of beef that oozes out of ideas and free from any rule. Because the rules don't always make us feel at ease, rather even limit us in living that moment that for Prandi is the meaning of life itself, that all called prestidigitation where the unexpected happens, where you see something you had never seen before. All by a click.
