Presentation of the catalog with Sabrina del Piano texts, Alessandro Quasimodo and Maurizio Brunialti.

The sea in the soul is born from an idea of Vittorio Del Piano who, in his life as a man and artist, has always felt and tried to express the deep debt of gratitude he felt towards women. "To the mothers, to the sisters, the wives of the South should make a monument!" He used to repeat it often, highlighting how much heroicity was present in the daily lives of these figures, these beings always defined delicate, fragile, weak, but that, especially in the last century, also caused the two major war conflicts, had to draw to all their physical, spiritual, and moral energies from their own inner tank to ensure that the family, the society, the state could avoid imploding.
Vittorio Del Piano cited examples to the most trivial appearance, but on which we should still think today: the women who went to the river to wash in the cold waters the laundry of the whole house; the girls traveling miles and miles to bring some eggs to the market; the mothers who nodded their eyes at the trembling light of a candle or an oil lamp to wiggle the woolen knits for their children, or for the older children to leave for the forehead. They, anonymous and mute heroines, to whom no one has ever recognized a more public or official merit of a kiss on the cheek or a fleeting look of satisfaction for the work done - even if these gestures were there ... Why else everything was due: commitment and sacrifice were passed and unnoticed. Vittorio Del Piano thinks of a tribute to the women agitated by the "sea in the soul," shaken by the sea of affections, floating in the ocean of contrasting emotions whose inner vastness allows them to sacrifice themselves for another good. Maria Cumani, a woman of modern age, cultivated and refined, of versatile ingenuity, of great culture and deep sensitivity to the sea, embodies the figure of these women. Bride of a character so cumbersome as the Nobel Prize winner Salvatore Quasimodo, where bride should read a friend, mom, companion, helper secretary, daddy, lover, collaborator and more, lives for love a life of shadow, renunciation and deprivation his "beloved" shines. It does so with elegance that is not absence of suffering, but sublimation. And when the "sea in the soul" begins to swell because in his body grows his son Alessandro, she will transform this sea into salvation, purity, in a dimension that will crown him victorious over time. His self-consciousness and his formidable determination will be his lifesaver and his raft in a sea that is often stormy; his son Alexander his happy landing. Recovering and completing Vittorio Del Piano's project is not only a tribute to the missing artist and an undeniable artwork, but above all an indispensable tribute to the value of all the lost Maria Cumani in the anonymous sea of our history, as returned white and pure shells, from the sea of memory.
