Claudio Accardi Award 2009

The “Claudio Accardi Award” was set up to provide financial assistance to young people who report on war, thus promoting an understanding of the dynamics of war, the political choices of those involved and the repercussions of war on civilian communities. It is an annual award.
A money prize – 4.000 euro – is awarded to three peoples that the jury has considered worthy, to support their commitment and research to their careers through enabling them to pursue “in the field” new experiences and research.
There is also a fourth prize – 2.000 euro – for young people under 23 years: if the want, they can partecipate for the other awards, but it’s possibile partecipate for only one section.
The award is open to young journalists, also free-lancers, aspiring journalists, students enrolled in journalism schools, university students and school students. They must present one piece of work: unpublished works, or published after January 1, 2009.
Works can be presented in English, French, Italian or Spanish.
Since the purpose of the award is to promote those willing to be involved in recounting the effects of wars on civilian societies, the works presented should concern this subject.
The meaning of war being, both, that fought militarily and that fought by individuals or groups struggling against racial discrimination, poverty, social exclusion, and illness.
The deadline for the presentation of work is 10th September 2009.

The awarding of the prizes will held in Rome in the first half of December.
