I had already appreciated the artworks of Sophokles Koutris, large works exhibited on the occasion of a group exhibition in Rome, then when I saw his works on paper I remembered my first impression: a conceptual work that opens the research by flattening, the geometricization of the surface and the desired search for narration.
The artworks on paper presented in this solo exhibition by Rossocinabro represent a time off, an evolution of thought, which in turn takes to further study.
The period of the red ocher backgrounds, the flat backgrounds and the deliberately wanted symbols, will undoubtedly have an evolution, they will call into question the plastic values to then reassume them in a new way.
I am enchanted by those synthetic forms, by the space divided into geometric shapes, together with the combinations of other, pink, green and blue very tonal, they allude to dreamlike places, build private spaces and thought.
A relevant formal and structural conception is symmetrical and regular in some works, free and inclined in others. The sensation produced is a story through images and symbols, intimate meanings that nourish the mind.
In this way, the art is placed within research and it finds meaning in it. This path is made of continuous challenges that they are played in solitude with themselves, closed in the study in the most beautiful and daily creative condition.
The work of Sophokles is a search for essentiality, in the bare minimum of colour backgrounds find the greatest effect. The result, thus purified, refers to endless questions.
