The Los Angeles Printmaking Society is pleased to announce the opening of their new exhibition space, LA Print Space at the Pacific Design Center. This new space will highlight fine art printmaking as an important and continually evolving art form. LA Print Space will present exhibitions that emphasize an aesthetic of excellence and innovative exploration in the art of printmaking. Art of LAPS members will be featured in addition to national and international exchange exhibitions. The space will open with Sea of Exchange, a collaborative effort between LAPS and the 2012 edition of the Los Angeles Irish Film Festival. The opening reception will take place on Wednesday, September 19, from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Sea of Exchange exhibition features work by established artists from the US and Ireland that honors the cultural relationship between the two countries. This exhibition focuses on the artist as storyteller and how she/he explores the human condition and includes prints as well as mixed media works. The exhibition, curated by Cathy Weiss, includes a mix of local Los Angeles artists and visiting artists from Ireland including Mary Sherwood Brock, Wanda Decca, Mark Steven Greenfield, Ros Harvey, Nancy Jo Haselbacher, Holly Jerger, Dave Lefner, Poli Marichal, Donal Mac Polin, Simon McWilliams, Suzy 0?Mullane, Gary Palmer, Sara h Pavsner, Tim Stampton and Cathy Weiss. The Sea of Exchange exhibition will present one of the unique focal points of the Irish Film Festival. Do?nal Mac Poli?n, author of The Donegal Currachs, will journey from Ireland to shepherd a team of local craftsmen, led by LA native Dan Conroy, through the ancient steps of constructing by hand a currach, the traditional wooden boat used along the coast of Ireland for more than a thousand years. The process of building the currach will begin in the lobby of the LA Print Space and the framework of the boat will be launched at the opening reception. These events are free of cost and open to all.
