The miraculous breakdown
Exhibitions, Italy, Gorizia, 14 July 2012
A project of Leone Contini, curated by Špela Zidar

Caporetto, Upper Isonzo, Slavia Veneta, Resia

Project presentation | July 14, 19:30, Museum of Caporetto, Gregorčičeva 10, Kobarid, Slovenia

La rotta mracolosa project originates from a chat between the artist Leone Contini and Špela Zidar, Slovenia curator residing in Italy. The conversation quickly arrives at an incongruity: what in Italy is known as the Break of Caporetto (Disfatta di Caporetto the 12th battle of the Isonzo front in WW1) is called in Slovenia the miracle of Caporetto. These two specular expressions - although less commonly used in Slovenia - are revealing a memory conflict.

The Miraculous breakdown is therefore the paradoxical linguistic fusion of two seemingly disparate historical perspectives.

On 14 July Leone Contini and Špela Zidar will present, in an open dialogue between curator, artist and audience, the experience of fieldwork and projects that have resulted from this experience and how they will be "activated" by the road map.

On the morning of July 15 the first "action" of the road map will be activated: a workshop on the battlefields of the Great War, but with a shift from military heritage / memorial to the living / contemporary.

In the days following the road map will be distributed in the War Museum of Caporetto: the interventions reported in it will be activated on a discretionary basis by the public.
