MANUELA MANCIOPPI: TEMPORARY RELATIONSHIPS
Exhibitions, Italy, Firenze, 08 September 2014
OPENING RECEPTION: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 AT 6PM
An installation and performance by Florentine artist, Manuela Mancioppi, will be a dynamic work-in-progress event and exhibition where the artist and the audience/viewer will interact and participate in a "relationship" through the utilization of cotton-wool "clothing" made by the artist and presented in the gallery space to be worn and stowed. Photo-drawings on the wall will serve as instructions for use.
"Relational clothes" will be available to wear and share between two-, three-, and four-person groups, creating an environment where it is inevitable to interact physically with eachother. Other "clothing" can be worn alone or with other people as temporary seating and arrangements: the dress-chair and the carpet-dress. Elastic sleeves will prohibit the free movement causing interpretations of the body's restrictions. Camouflage clothes will hide between the soft sculptures in curious forms.
The pilot project, Temporary_Seating, was initiated in 2011 for the event at Contemporary City Ceramics station in San Giovanni Valdarno (AR) by providing temporary urban seating: temporary situations being shared in contemporary cities. The relational participation in a temporary place acts as a resting place as in a station which provides potential moments of encounter and exchange between people. The actual unfolding of the action has allowed a further study on the development of temporary situations and relational movements, even through the movement of the dancers.
