July 8-31, 2011
Contemporary Alchemy, or the relations between humans and nature sheds light on the connection between man and nature. the artist draws from his scientific background in the artwork, creating an unexpected universe. he begins with an exploration of ancient tribal rituals, and ends with a discussion of NASA research on plants that are capable of filtering air in space stations. andreco’s work symbolizes a new concept of ritual based on exchanges of substances. this contemporary alchemy gives us a map to reconfigure the relationship with our time, space and actions both at a metaphorical and practical level. it does so by decoding and utilizing such natural processes to transform harmful substances generated from human activities.
The show will include prints, videos, performances, and an interactive installation which invites the viewers to witness the creative process.
BIO . Andreco was born in Rome, in the last ten years lived in others cities in Italy and Europe, form 2011 moved to New York City. Andreco’s artistic research focuses on anatomy, biology, urbanism, ecology, as well as the symbolism of the ancient rituals. He attributes to the internal organs a symbolic message, inventing new symbols. His artworks vary from public installations to videos or large size paintings and drawings. Andreco's works have been shown in several European and international exhibitions.
