Giovanni Manunta Pastorello
Exhibitions, Italy, Ascoli Piceno, San Benedetto del Tronto, 02 May 2010
Galleria Marconi of Cupra Marittima presents the sole exhibition by Gianni Manunta Pastorello, cured by Simonetta Angelini author of the critical text as well. Opening on 2nd May at 6.00 p.m..
Afeer the successful sole exposition by Rocco Dubbini, that closed the mini series of Marche Centro d'Arte, Pastorello exposition closes the program I don't know and I don't want to know.
Pastorello is one of the most important artists of the new Italian art survey. Centre of his research is picture itself and a limpid, rich, even if anxious, aesthetics.

“Marconi Gallery dedicates a sole exposition to Giovanni Manunta Pastorello with a same title. The nomen that becomes the sign of a deviation of an identity shifting. Unexpected. The philosopher Adriana Cavarero quotes in her essay “Tu che mi guardi, tu che mi racconti”:«The name is a strange verbal syntesis of a ununiqueness which exposes itself to its question without any correspondent further knowness».
The self, declined into the third person, becomes a question, a self with a metamorphicskin. Possible in plural, that can be told. Apart from the text. Identity is changeable, a work in progress.
Pastorello pictorial works have an impulse to abstrahere that tells the process of distillation, synthesis, powerful concentration.
Nature, restless and pathological, has tubular structure volumes. It is a female daimon. Unpredictable, liar. The random variable.
Inside a reality in a chemical mutation, in a synthetic and acid dissolution, of a dust consistency nearly Lucrezio-like”. (Simonetta Angelini)

I don't know and I don't want to know isn't just an answer, it's also a provocation, an attitude and, after all, a kind of agnosticism, that about art we could say cultural. It is a way to face the great questions about mankind: where do we come from? Where do we go? Why sorrow? Why baked potatoes are never enough?
An answer which is often convenient, sometimes upsetting. It expresses the will of ignorance, that is very far from the Socratic statement following which, the real wise man is the one who knows he doesn't know. There isn't any will for knowledge, no curiosity, only detachment and indifference.
This sentence is often made in front of an art proposal and it hurts a little. The one who says it may seem a bit out of the time, but he really is often one of the not too much silent majority.
It would now be legitimate to answer the question: why such a title for a program of expositions?
The answer is already in the title, after all.
