Where there is no water sand
Where there is a bee's life
There are no bees harmony. Neither harmony without bees
The site-specific installation ... is dead honey? proposes a bee with a body of straw and hay, legs and antennae made from hazel branches.
Everything is fascinating, everything is a mystery in the world of small, tireless, very tidy and toilsome that inhabit the hive. The analogy between a beehive and a busy city crossed by the stirrings of human life, in its many forms and activities, refers to the concept of commitment and sacrifice of the individual, in view of the safety and well-being of the collective.
The bees, ants, mosquitoes, insects are carriers as hieroglyphs of ancient wisdoms and tell the nature, all dedicated to the survival of the superorganism.
The peculiar social organization of the family, who is from the biological point of view to be considered as a superorganism, or as a single entity made up of thousands of individuals closely interdependent, obviously needs a powerful communication system. The mode of communication of the bees are still under study, but much has been clarified. Honeybees have a type of communication semiochimico by pheromones, and a physical: the so-called "dance" that bees implement to communicate a very specific message to the companions.
But how does the bee, with only a million neurons, to be able to demonstrate many amazing behaviors? In this superorganism, a family than a corporation, has been developed during evolution a system, similar to a biological internet, to put in tune all the brains of forty - fifty thousand individuals populating a hive in good health? Before us, the bees have already reached the noosphere?
Performance is dead ... honey?
Performer: Eleanor Robustelli
I do? Chase an image, nothing else. The performance is dead ... honey? staged a dance that refers to the dance of the bees.
The performer draws with colored earths some circles in the shape of eight, so as to create an angle with the perpendicular drawn from the sun to the hive and travels circuits designed with a dance.
When a 'bee back to' hive after finding a particularly rich flower nectar, performs random movements for nothing.
The phase of waving of the dance is the most important part and full of information for the vibrations created from the abdomen and as an authentic communication system, these movements are in fact to indicate the presence and the position of the food, and to recruit other specimens for collection.
