The event stems from the desire of Mercy to promote and support the new and ambitious project Art Charity Village San Sebastian "to finance a structure for the accommodation of intellectual disabilities, a research center and a European art therapy where artists, intellectual disabilities and medical personnel can interact by developing a mutual enrichment. A demonstration of how art can become a vehicle for charity initiatives for socio-cultural awareness and stimulating public opinion towards issues always present.
The urban art is an artistic movement that in recent years has significantly developed into an international phenomenon that involves a growing number of artists and audience, giving voice to that part of culture, so-called suburban, developed in the streets and suburbs of big cities and becoming form of communication and expression enjoyed by anyone. In that sense, what form of art closer to people, street art is much closer to charitable and humanitarian purposes pursued by Arciconfraternita of Mercy, founded in 1244 as the first company in the world of charity, still faithful to its original function and active in different parts of the globe.
The event, curated by Chiara Canali, is divided into different stages and events including an exhibition at the Museum of Mercy, a show of wall drawing in the garage of Mercy, underground location in the center of the city, painting sessions live on the square of Mercy, in front of Piazza Duomo, in the historical center of Florence, "customization" of cars, textiles, accessories, design objects and gadgets.
The artists involved in the project, about sixty of the most important sector, both nationally and internationally, will donate their work. At dell'opening, 13 April 2009, in the halls of the Museum of Mercy, will be presented a selection of works donated, next to paintings in the permanent collection. At the conclusion of the exhibition the works will be an auction whose proceeds will go all'Arciconfraternita of Mercy, to support the Charity Art Village of San Sebastian ".
The various appointments, located in the city of Florence, will start with an extraordinary and unprecedented action, on a scale urban development and macroscopic, of the Milan Bros on the facade of the Palazzo della Misericordia, Piazza Duomo, while in the period between 13 and April 23 will be staged a great painting session live, which will assist spectators and passers-by, where they will be involved in some of the most important international art dell'urban names, including M-City from Poland, Germany Dome, from TvBoy Barcelona, and Smart Etnik Florence, Nut & Stefy Bologna, Ozmo, El Gato Chimney, Santy and Luže of Milan, called for an opportunity to express their creativity, according to the different types of style and language.
This impressive collective work, a monumental character, will open April 24 2009, and the route will include not only the walls of the garage of Mercy, in Piazza Duomo, open to the public exclusively as new location, but also the perimeter of the large car park of the Station Rifredi of thanks to the availability of Railways.
On the same day, in Piazza Repubblica, the poet Ivan street blank page will produce the largest in the world in an artistic happening that will affect the intellectual disabilities, the artist and the public of the city in a direct and engaging.
At the end of the event will be published a bilingual brochure that will contain the publication of all the donated works and interventions wall drawing made in the fabric of the city to witness the diversity of artistic expression involved in this event of Street Art Charity.
The project is being conducted with the sponsorship of technical Maimeri who provided the color used by artists in the realization of their works.
