In the mid-twentieth century, in fact, our city was the center button for a renewal of expression involving the whole of Europe and is recognized around the Prize Liss, thanks to the quality of the participating artists, achieved a reputation equal to the Venice Biennale.
Just the Museum of Contemporary Art keeps inside this important collection of works, with works by the most important on the international scene of the twentieth century, such as Adams, Appel, Birol-li, Dorazio, Moreni, Morlotti, Ruggeri, Scanavino, Schifano , Tàpies, Widow, to name a few.
The vicissitudes of history then led us to rethink the formula of Liss Award. Thus since 2002 has opened a new branch dedicated to new generations and to the masters of tomorrow.
The exhibition represents the goodness of the then intuition. The group of 45 finalists representing the best of international art scene, with authors who come not only from Italy, but many countries in Europe and other continents.
The Award Liss, 2010, in addition to strong international character and to be more open than previous editions, is distinguished by its direct involvement, along the lines of the prestigious competition and the historical tradition of extraordinary experiences in the fifties by the famous Milanese gallerist Guido Le Noci , over one thousand modern and contemporary art galleries operating in six European countries.
It was the nuts that in 1953, thanks to the development of relationships with artists, critics, collectors, gallery owners, but above all, gave birth to the first international edition of the Prize.
Allow me to thank, as well as representatives of numerous institutions and Italian companies and aliens who have sponsored the initiative, the jury selection that has had to choose between almost 300 per-personality of great importance in the contemporary art, but whose hard work will, I am sure, a further contribution to the already important collection of quality that our Museum has in its halls.
In a historical moment so complicated, tormented by an economic crisis is hard to read, it is a pride for Liss and his Administration to broaden their horizons to culture, with an eye to the future and to future generations.
I'm sure of success that will have this event, both as critics and as a result. Once again, we will highlight the power and authority with which the City Council of Vis-ne and the Museum of Contemporary Art organized cultural events, capable of interacting with a wide audience and not just Italian.
A little 'history, meanwhile, the Prize Liss. The golden age of the Prize, the historical one, is between 1946 and 1967 when, just out of the war, engaged in the great reconstruction Lissone decide to support this with an artistic event that will draw in the city between 1950 and 1967, Europe's greatest artists, but also from overseas: among them we can remember Adami, Alechinsky, Appel, Birolli, Dorazio, Fautrier, Fontana, Hartung, Klein, Morlotti, Murtic, Perilli, Pollock, Rauschenberg, Rothko, Scanavino, Schifano, Schneider, Soulages, Tapies, Tobey, Twombly, Vasarely, Widow Werner.
After that first season, takes the prize Liss thirty-five years later, in 2002, after the construction of the Museum of Contemporary Art (2000) intended to accommodate the collection of important works acquired during the first phase, now described as historic, of the Award. From 2002 to 2005, the Prix held once a year, now two years, with the launch of Lissone Design Award (2006 and 2008), which then alternates with the prize for painting.
The Award Liss 2010 reaches its climax with an international event to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the important contemporary art museum. The occasion will be involved for the reporting of young artists, galleries, over a thousand Italian and other European countries (Spain, France, Germany, Great Britain and Hungary) who have willingly acceded to the request sent by the museum.
A final, before going into the merits of the works, it must be said that the main feature of this edition (the sixth) is a widespread internationalization. Five, as well as Italy were the countries involved in the identification of the artists. Eventually, though, just looking at the 45 artists selected and eligible to participate directly, you realize how globalization now makes artificial boundaries: between nations of origin, in fact, we find not only those where the award was intended, but also Chile, Japan, USA, Norway, Holland and Serbia. The movement of young writers in various parts of the world means that even their language bears a connotation that goes beyond individual cultures to express a universal sentiment, where the influences of the original lands are present, but not enough to affect the reading of works or to reduce significantly the expressiveness.
As in previous editions - and even more so after the agreements reached with other museums in Lombardy to describe their premiums by type of intervention (sculpture, video, public art, etc..) - A factor determining the characteristics of the Premio Lissone remains the only painting technique which allowed, in close continuity with the historical premiums, but also with a view to assessing how much is possible and productive for a young person to communicate with the traditional means of expression. Painting understood, however, openly, however, to allow access to jobs also made by other techniques (cards, collage, photographic film, pieces of papers and posters and more) participating in the operation with a logic and a function of type of painting.
Overall, the proposed work is clear the breadth of creativity today, which certainly can not afford to forget the past, but leaning - sometimes explicitly - to the experiences and inventions of masters who came before us, looking to "step "to give body to a genuine expression and, where possible, original.
The choices made by the jury are now offered the vision of all. The proposal is broad and allows each one to find stress - close yet far - its sensitivity. The important question is that we leave because it's just finding solutions to questions and doubts that the mind can broaden their horizons.
