EVI PHOTOPOULOS
THE GREEK CONTEMPORARY VISUAL ARTIST
SOUTHERN NEVADA
Museum of Fine Arts
"Bloom Land"
International Contemporary Masters Vol V
Exhibition 2nd March– 2ndJune 2012
«The storm of fire in 2007, one of the greatest disasters in Greece to this date, is turned by the hands of Evi Photopoulos into an active field of a unique spiritual and aesthetic experience». Katerina Voreadou,
Natural History Museum of Crete.
«The artist, Mrs. Photopoulos through her paintings once again spreads the message of hope and faith that we can all come to love nature again».Giannis Drositis, Heraklion Municipal Art Gallery
Sensitive to the environmental issues which greatly affect our small neighborhoods as well as the whole of Greece and ultimately the entire planet ,assist the cry of protest through art of Evi Photopoulos for the
indifference, overexploitation, "rape" and destruction of our natural environment.
On Saturday, March 10th , the first month of the spring, when we all admire the splendor of nature, this cry of despair from the artist echoes even more tragic to our complacent ears.
Evi Photopoulos' oil paintings included in the series, "Bloom Land," constitute a continuation of the traditions of Byzantine Art. The dark tones and deep dramatic colours, which lead associatively to the ritual atmosphere of the Byzantine churches, become a counterpoint to the cold breath of polished aluminum
and remind one of the explosive religious iconography of the Divine Judgment and the Second Coming.
At the same time, her paintings are modern and comprehensible, overflowing with the passion of the creator who is shaken and overwhelmed by the actions of Man against Man and against the Environment accommodating him.
Summarizing her views, the artist states: "Through my series of works, "The Bloom Land" I wish to inform all fellow-human beings to the point where each and every one of us acquires a sensitive environmental awareness and power of freedom to demand the future of the next generation on Earth".
Evi Photopoulos studied initially in the Art Workshop of great Greek carver Konstantinos Grammatopoulos (1990-1994).
She then travelled to Milan where she was specialized in clothing design (1995-1999), in order to experiment also with other printing and art creation materials.
Her experience was enriched by her apprenticeship in the Art Workshop of N. Christoforakis in Athens (2000-2003) she continued in the Byzantine Workshop of N. Giannakakis (2004-2007), and then afterwards concluded her studies at London Art College & Tate Courses (2007-2009) thus completing in total a seventeen-year study in the field.
Her work has been exhibited at the: MUNICIPAL ART GALLERY OF (LOS ANGELES & HERAKLION OF CRETE), HLSI HIGHGATE GALLERY - LONDON, INFINITY GALLERY - NEW YORK, ARTWORK GALLERY -DENVER,FACTORY OF ART-OLIVE PRESS -CHANIA, ART FORUM -BERLIN,(PREBIENNALE & PROJECT JUNE) in “STUDIO CARAPOSTOL” –VENICE &CHIANCIANO BIENNALE- MUSEUM OF MODERN ART,GUANLAN BASE PRINT-BIENNALE CHINA,MERIDA MUSEO MEXICO-EFFETO BIENNALE.
