MARKET ZONE call
Prize calls, Italy, Cuneo, 02 May 2013
MARKET ZONE is an interdisciplinary and cross – border workshop within the public space on the theme of the market – Cuneo/Italy, Nice/France 2013-2014.
The workshop organisers believe that the market is a place of meeting and exchange. In every city, markets are common, they are characteristic of the city they inhabit and attract locals and tourists alike. Besides their commercial role, markets bring into question various current fundamental issues such as the environment, the relationship between the city, the environment, the supply chain, urban planning, social and cultural integration, and models of consumption and recycling. Market zone invites artists, researchers and the public involved to reflect on the nature of these chosen spaces, areas for the sale of various goods but also a window onto the cultural and social links between two specific territories and to work on the interrelations of the two markets and possible interactions which could take place between these two coexisting realities.
Market zone will run over a two years period from 2013 to 2014, uniting 12 participants with similar specific interests in art, design and graphic design and will be open to various disciplines: visual arts, design, graphic design, architecture, urban planning, scenography and research within the fields of history, anthropology and sociology. APPLICATIONS TO PARTICIPATE ARE NOW OPEN AND WILL EXPIRE WEDNESDAY 5 JUNE 2013.
Market zone is intended to compare different disciplines concerned with markets, which lead to the highly precise organisation of the public urban space. The project will rethink the public space through various activities: a workshop and a series of conferences in the two cities concerned, Cuneo and Nice, public presentations and roving exhibition at the two markets to favour the creation of a local network to support the development of interdisciplinary research and experimentation.

DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY 5 JUNE 2013
