ZOOart 2014, open call for applications

The cultural association Art.ur announces that the call for selections for the thirteenth edition of ZOOart, international exhibition dedicated to the diffusion of contemporary art in public space, has been extended to 28 February 2014.

The event, curated by Art.ur in collaboration with Fabio Cafagna - Arteco, will be held, according to a well-established tradition, during the first three weeks of July in the Fresia Gardens area, zoological park in the past and now a green recreational area in the historic center of the city of Cuneo (Italy).

More than thirty young national and international artists, will be invited to confront with the characteristic area of the urban garden, a landscape full of suggestions where nature appears both as a spontaneous and domesticated element.

The site-specific projects, which will include installations, sculptures, paintings, photographs, drawings, video, performance and new media, will be set up in different areas of the city park.
Also confirmed is the unique exhibition concept, which aims at promoting an exchange relationship between art and society.

The artists are in fact called to act within a structured context which during the exhibition period, maintains its function as a recreation area for children and adults. Thanks to an exchange or a simple observation, artists and citizens tend to share knowledge and perceptions trigged by an environment in continous change.

For this purpose, with the desire of contributing effectively towards interrogating the relationship between man, landscape and social context, the projects addressing the theme of urban garden intended as a hybrid zone of free transit but at the same time well-defined in the fabric of the city, will be specially considered.

Those interested are invited to carefully read the conditions of participation on the website www.zooart.it.

Please note that participation is free. The selected artists will benefit from the support of the organization in the planning phase and in situ installation of the works, and they will be hosted in Cuneo in order to work on the installation of the works and take part in all the other events of ZOOart.

The year 2014 confirms ZOOart as a container of events:

ZOOlive, festival of performing arts and electronic music, a live and participatory expression of creation consumed on the spot;

ZOOincittà, itinerary in the historic center of the city through the works of public art, created thanks to the involvement of architects and designers from the province of Cuneo and students of the Politecnico of Turin;

ZOObimbi, an educational workshop of creative improvisation with the use of recycled materials reserved for children;

Among the events, it also announces the third edition of the competition LocalArt, organized by the CRC Foundation in collaboration with the Association Art.ur and intended for artists under 40 from the area of Cuneo. The competition announcement will be published in early 2014.
