Weekend in the third sign of the Coast Day, the international event dedicated to issues of protection and enhancement of the coast which is celebrated annually around the Mediterranean (with its epicenter, this time in Turkey). Communication and awareness raising event, the Coast Day in Sardinia this year also offers an extensive program of initiatives to identify with a stated goal: to know, live and respect the island's shores.
The "Headquarters" is Cruise Terminal at the port of Cagliari, where on Saturday 24 and Sunday, October 25, awaits its visitors an extensive series of meetings, conferences, workshops and cultural events. But the Coast Day 2009 also extends its dense network in the immediate vicinity of the capital and elsewhere on the island: guided tours, nature walks, photo exhibits, environmental education initiatives, racing and other sports moments, are scheduled from Baunei Chia, from Villasimius Perdasdefogu, Bari Sardo Urzulei dall'Asinara Porto Conte, from Buggerru to Is Mortorius, from Sant'Antioco Alghero. A rich and varied program of events that the Coastal Conservatory (the Agency of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia) has been organizing with the cooperation of the coastal municipalities, parks and marine protected areas, environmental education centers, cultural and sports associations.
Cruise Terminal at the port of Cagliari cut the ribbon Saturday, October 24 at 10 am with opening remarks by the authorities. Then, at 11, the spotlight on one of the most anticipated guests, Chiara Vigo, considered the last master of fine linen, "sea silk" created by the Pinna nobilis, a large bivalve mollusk that lives in the depths of the Mediterranean. Together with his brother Joseph, the artist Sardinian Sant'Antioco illustrate an educational workshop during the various steps in the processing of precious filament from the collection at the bottom of the sea to the different stages of spinning and weaving (will also bring its ancient frame). In the afternoon (17:30) Chiara Vigo then presents an exhibition that brings together eleven of his sixty-eight works created with this ancient art which is the sole trustee and that he inherited from his grandmother.
Meanwhile, the first day of the Coast Day will have experienced more moments in the structure set up on Pier Ichnusa the port of Cagliari. At noon a delicious scene goes into "literary cocktail" with three prominent authors in the literary scene Sardinian Marcello Fois (which has just published his latest novel, "Sons"), Milena Agus (also fresh from the back of "The Countess of cottage cheese") and Michela Murgia (winner of the prestigious Prix a month ago Dessi, issue number twenty-four, with the novel "Accabadora"). Presented by journalist Celestine Tabasso, the authors propose three pages to the public inspired by the sea and contact with nature.
In addition to Chiara Vigo, workshops for adults and children have other surprises. The rubbish left on the beach will be used for the construction of the Mullet "Schillellé", created by artist and designer Edward Malagigi in laboratory maintained by CEAS Nora Lagoon. Still, JeanRy - that Gianna Puggioni and Riri Murtas - teach the creation of jewelry based on marine materials.
