After the first step to Schau Fenster Gallery of Berlin, Sing Sweet Songs of Conviction arrives in Rome in the picturesque area Label201, an old barn in the early '900, restored with great respect the existing architecture, while maintaining the volume and surface, leaving read several layers over time it will be overwritten on the original walls.
The project Sing Sweet Songs of Conviction was born in December 2010 when a group of finalists of the International Celeste Prize 2010, will gather to set up the display of the prize in New York. Hence the idea of a traveling exhibition in each city of residence of each artist. The exhibition will be in fact in April 2012 in Belfast, Berlin, London, Mexico City, New York City and Rome.
In each city was an invited guest artist and guest curator with the intention of characterizing the project in every place, and to highlight the local art scene. At the stage of Rome in the role of guest artist will be present Pietro Ruffo, by Laura Barreca.
During the inauguration of May 22, in the spaces outside the gallery, viewers can watch a series of special events: live performances by Helena Hamilton Climb through the holes in my brain to get to my soulluos, I promised to wake up soon and I is not superstitious video projection of Marina and Francesca Romana Pinzari Pernette Sholtes.
"Six women using six different nationalities for many forms of artistic expression: Alessia Armenians, Helena Hamilton, Denise Hickey, Francesca Romana Pinzari, Pernette Scholte and Lisa Wade.
Painting, sculpture, installation, video and performance are using multiple media. Each of them has his own personal technique that has matured over time.
How to approach and have the common thread starting from a very precise person to start a job, it may be your body or your psyche, the light, the global climate, or the community that surrounds them.
This is not necessarily political or utopian theories and philosophies that stir, but rather the micro cosmos that you need to know well before you begin to theorize about the world's largest, made from everything and every person who is the life of every day .
Perhaps this obsession with concrete subjects that combines, for example by putting the study of the details and the humility not to pass judgment until they see it all. This aspect suggests that what they have in common, despite the apparent diversity, is a female approach to artistic production. The micro-cosmos examined by six artists, they would lose part of their meaning if they were not made in connection with a macro-cosmos. A traveling exhibition developed with the desire to meet and discuss to combine their ideas with their peers, this encourages new collaborations and circumstances that open new horizons to all those involved. "(Julia Draganovic)
The exhibited works of Pietro Ruffo depart from the reflection of "how today's social networks and network communication involved with social and political world?". Starting from the image of some signs that read in Arabic waved in the streets of cities in revolt, taken by cameras of mobile phones and then rebounded in the world press, Pietro Ruffo created two large drawings on maps Arab South American and African Spring Spring, part of a series of works entitled Freedom Supermarket. The artist shows the strength with which these peoples reaffirm their individual liberty, through a massive civil resistance, such as a virus that gradually going to expand beyond the Arab world, in many other countries.
During the exhibition a catalog will be published with introduction by Julia Draganovic.
