GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK.
Exhibitions, Italy, Venezia, 28 September 2016
In the end of 1940, London was being attacked, German bombs were hitting Buckingham palace, future queen Elizabeth was giving a speech to the nation finalizing by saying "Good night and, Good luck to you all". Among all citizens, this became a popular saying. This was a period of time when life was compare to a big roulette. In the decade of the 1950's American war reporter Ed Murrow was against the anti-communism policy of senator McCarthy. During his TV transmissions, he revealed the dark side of the terror policies finalizing with the same farewell "slogan". In 2005, George Clooney adopted the slogan as a movie title. This film reflects the Murrow's battle against the McCarthyism policies.

According to the film director this was one of the most important periods for the TV in the United States of America. The long lasting global crisis we are experiencing, for some, it is the end of an era, without any solution to be taken. The world is changing at the highest speed with an obsession for the obsolescence. It seems that we are abandoned to ourselves. Stressed by eating organic food and making exercise, and to interact with the whole world. A world made by our own image and likeness, at the end this is not as beautiful as we imagine it should be. And the worst, it can not be photoshop.

Hence, these statements are the starting point for the curators of The School for Curatorial Studies Venice 2016. With various backgrounds and origins, they have initiated a series of studies based on the idea that, today, visual management is a form of power. The study of artists such as Hito Steyerl and Trevor Paglen has been inspiring for the development of some issues brought out by recent international events. "Good Night, and Good Luck." is also a reflection on the potentialities of art in a historical period where freedom of expression has once again become the subject of debate. A consideration about the practices of involvement and horizontal collaboration about the role of collectives and the possibility of using irony as an instrument of resistance.

The research was empowered by many guests who have given their contributions, such as curators like Gaia Tedone, Vincenzo Estremo, Francesca Lazzarini and artists Francesco Jodice and Discipula.

The exhibition will open on September 28th, at the A plus A Gallery in Venice.

The School for Curatorial Studies in Venice was founded by Aurora Fonda in 2004 in Venice with the purpose of creating an open laboratory for the expression of creativity in the field of visual arts and the professions related to contemporary art. The Course in "Curatorial Practices and Contemporary Arts", now in its 24th Italian edition and the second edition of the International Summer School, is articulated on both a practical and theoretical level towards an experimental approach, culminating in a final event organized by the participating students. The course is an ambitious and challenging project that aims to offer a vision of the complex world of contemporary art and offers a constructive contribution through the works produced by the School and its students.
