Fleurs by Enrico Borgogni and Packages of Visual Poetry by Paolo Caponi
Two master photographers exhibit in Arezzo from September 21 to October 2, 2013
The Villicana D’Annibale Gallery of via Cavour 85, in Arezzo, inaugurates Saturday, September 21, 2013, at 6pm, the second event of the new expository season with the exhibit of two noted Aretine artists: Fleurs of photographer Enrico Borgogni and Packages of Visual Poetry by photographer/sculptor Paolo Caponi.
The exhibit, curated by Danielle Villicana D’Annibale, which contains approximately forty works of art, will continue until Wednesday, October 2, 2013.
Amongst the collateral events, we note Saturday, September 28 at 6pm, a poetry reading by Professor Mario Belardi, also author of the presentation for the artists.
It is an honor for the gallery to present photographers of such a level. Two artist friends, both profoundly inspired by femininity, the Renaissance, antiques and by vintage.
The works in the exhibit go beyond the simple shot, they are light compositions and at the same time complex: figures, still lives and landscapes so beautiful as to remind one of the great figurative Tuscan.
Enrico Borgogni exhibits for the second time at the Villicana D’Annibale Gallery. He has been active for over thirty years and appreciated not only by his own city but also by Milan, where he exhibits with regularity in both personal and group exhibitions, proud of an artistic path difficult to catalog for the multiple use of techniques and means.
This is how Mario Belardi describes him in the critical essay: Artist of versatile sensitivity and of rare delicacy, Enrico Borgogni offers to our attention, his accurate as well as suggestive flower images. In front of them, one has the impression to take a journey in time and to emerge in the climate of 'Liberty' of the 'Belle epoque', focusing in the shadow of young maidens in flower of Proust's memory.
Paolo Caponi, who celebrated fifty years of art and photo, which have taken him to stage exhibits in all the world, and in his debut at the gallery on via Cavour.
Yet again, Professor Belardi explains the style of the Aretine artist: Through a unique approach of common objects, of everyday use, the imagination of Paul Caponi manages to portray them in an original way and evocative of a time. It is like a thin, as well as accurate allegory of life that one can grasp by reading ‘between the lines’ those images of safe scenic effect. And so we find ourselves in front of something unusual, halfway between the road between to be and to appear, between the dream and reality, between the material and the imaginary.
Two photographers – Borgogni and Caponi – of different languages but joined by fantasy, passion and love for beautiful things, characteristic of the style to encounter at the Villicana D’Annibale Gallery.
Two artists, but above all two great masters of the eighth art, chosen to welcome the new autumn season and give impulse to the “new Aretine Renaissance”, a concept in which Danielle Villicana D’Annibale strongly believes and which the seeds, according to the gallerist, were sown at the end of the Sixties by Ivan Bruschi, founder of the Fiera Antiquaria.
Who are the artists:
Enrico Borgogni was born in 1953 in Arezzo. He began photography in the early Eighties, and since then his activity has been incessant, with personal and group exhibitions in Italy, Germany and Spain.
The photographer is member of the photo club “La Chimera” of Arezzo and is part of the Polaroiders, otherwise known as the “instant” Italian artists. His works have been published by Polaroid, Hasselblad, Fotoit, FIAF and Reflex.
Borgogni is represented by the Villicana D'Annibale Gallery, which in 2012 curated the catalog published by Blurb of his solo exhibit Fiore Nudo.
Paolo Caponi was born in Arezzo in 1943. After having frequented the Academy of Fine Arts of Perugia (Accademia di Belle Arti di Perugia) in the Sixties, he went researching for his own personal language in photography as well as sculpture.
In his career he has exhibited with solo exhibitions in Italy, Venezuela, France, Spain and the United States.
In 1986 he realized a project for Caracas entitled Colonna Androgena. In 1994 he created the medallion for the 50° Anniversary for the Resistance for the City of Arezzo.
He is represented by Galleria Immaginaria of Florence and the Villicana D'Annibale Gallery of Arezzo.
