Following this first part of the project, from December 5 to 16, the second half of the initiative will take place.
Among the collateral events of the first exhibit we note, Saturday, November 29, a friendly “round table” with the participating photographers, painters and sculptors, curated by Marco Botti. In the same appointment, Danielle Villicana D’Annibale e Maurizio D’Annibale will celebrate with a toast to four years of activity in the exhibition space Via Cavour 85 (previously called the Villicana D’Annibale Gallery) and the 67 exhibits organized since December, 2010.
THE IMPORTANCE OF STIEGLITZ
Alfred Stieglitz (1864/1946), born in Hoboken in New Jersey, was the founder of the journal Camera Notes in 1897 and of the journal Camera Works, directed by him from 1903 to 1917. His gallery “291”, located on Fifth Avenue in New York from 1905 to 1917, was a dynamic space that literally changed the history of photography and art in the United States.
The fermentation, the exchanges and the contaminations orchestrated with wisdom and passion by Stieglitz produced an explosion of creativity in the first decades of the 1900s.
In his gallery he exhibited for the first time photography next to paintings and sculptures, dedicating himself to give complete dignity to the new art form.
His other great merit was to introduce the American market to the great European avant-guarde such as Rodin, Matisse, Toulouse-Lautrec, Manet, Cézanne, Renoir, Rousseau, Picasso, Brancusi, Picabia and Duchamp.
As the curator Daniele Alfani explains, “Alfred Stieglitz is a fundamental figure, probably the most important in the story of visual arts in America for his roles in photography, discoverer and promoter of artists of various kinds, editor, patron and collector”.
THE EXHIBIT
The idea of the event was born out of a meeting between Aretine photographers and the American photographer Pinque Clark, moderated by journalist Marco Botti at Via Cavour 85 last June.
To honor Alfred Stieglitz, for his 150° birth anniversary, thus were conceived the two group exhibitions which include thirty-seven artists, of which twenty-seven are Italian and the rest from other parts of the world.
There will be on exhibit an eclectic and heterogeneous group of works, mixing painting, sculpture and photography, just as the American did a century ago, to stimulate the creativity in the local art scene as well as to promote the cultural exchanges with international artists. The selected include indeed noted personalities of clear fame as well as some emerging talents.
The artists in the first group exhibition (15 Italian and 3 international) are: Roberta Alberti (Città di Castello - Pg), Daniele Alfani (Arezzo), Demetrio Vladimiro Andidero (Reggio Calabria), Gianni Bigoni (Lagosanto - Fe), Dina Cangi (Arezzo), Fernando Casalini (Arezzo), Pinque Clark (USA), Alfiero Coleschi (Sansepolcro - Ar), Pietro Farsetti (Arezzo), Riccardo Fiorucci (Città di Castello - Pg), James Kleckner (USA), Maurizio Laurenti (Grosseto), Sabrina Livi (Arezzo), Fabrizio Pruscini (Città di Castello - Pg), Jaya Schuerch (USA), Maila Stolfi (Prato), Luigi Torreggiani (Sarmato - Pc), Filippo Volpi (Città di Castello - Pg).
A list of excellent artists where the ones that shine out include Pinque Clark, Alfiero Coleschi, James Kleckner and Jaya Schuerch, without forgetting veterans Pietro Farsetti and Fernando Casalini.
