A conference with the participation of family members of some Calabrian women victims of femicide and experts in the field, an exhibition of old documents and new works with the participation of international artists. During combat violence against women, PRIVATE, the national project on gender-based violence and femicide, arrives in Calabria, Cosenza, enriched with new elements and ideas. It is March 8 that runs PRIVATE Italy, pointing the finger at this serious problem by the language of contemporary art and educational workshops in schools.
Seven artists involved in the project: Federica Amichetti, Alessandra Baldoni, Mirko Canesi, Mandra Cerrone, John Gaggia, Francesca Romana Pinzari, Rita Soccio, with the special participation of women journalists Nikla Cingolani and Tamara Ferrari. Their work has a strong emotional impact, but who stunned the Italian public for the ability to report the phenomenon gently, will be exhibited at the State Archives of Cosenza which is located in the historic and picturesque convent of the Minims of St. Francis Paola. In the contemporary art exhibition, curated by Federica Mariani, will be connected to another show at the "Stories of women and violence in the past centuries," by the State Archives with documents on femicide in Calabria.
But the Calabrian stage of PRIVATE will also present another innovation: in addition to the works on display in the various Italian stages (some of which have also gained international recognition) will be presented for the first time to the public the work "stigma" of anemone, artist works with different media and that on this occasion has a sharp and provocative video that will not leave you indifferent.
The project PRIVATE, using different languages and especially the visual shake the conscience, began its run on March 8 of the Mole Vanvitelliana of Ancona, continuing the Art Hotel Gran Paradiso in Sorrento and in the Church Of St. John The Evangelist Penne (Pescara). After Cosenza, the exhibition will continue his tour with events in other cities and workshops in schools.
The opening at the State Archives of Cosenza, in Via Gian Vincenzo Gravina, in the historic city center, is scheduled for Saturday, November 15 at 16.30, with a conference entitled "Stop Femicide: Art and Love Private ever. "
The conference will be introduced by the director of the State, Pasqualina Mary Trotta, and moderated by journalists Rosalba Baldino and Tamara Ferrari. Several experts will be: journalist Journal of the South, Archangel Badolati; criminologist Paul De Pasquali; Councillor for Equality of the Province of Ancona, Pina Ferraro Fazio; Francesca Spadafora, a psychologist and member of the Actively Involved non-profit organization, and grandson of Anna Morrone, who was killed in Cosenza July 2, 1999; the journalist Francesca Fang, who on this occasion asked to propose an exhibition on ancient documents that attest to the killing of women in this region. But above all, there will be families of some victims of femicide in Calabria: Mario and Rosa Luzzi Luzzi parents Fabiana, the sixteen year old killed and burned by boyfriend in Corigliano Calabro, May 24, 2013; Marisa Garofalo, sister Lea Garofalo, the witness of Justice killed and made to disappear in Milan November 24, 2009; Angela, Jane, Antonella Peel, Peel sisters Vincenzina Fernanda, who was killed in Collegno (Turin) on 11 October 2012; Frank and Matilda Lanzino, parents of Robert Lanzino, the student raped and killed July 26, 1988 while on a motorbike went into the house by the sea, which for 26 years with the Foundation Roberta Lanzino raise awareness and help women and children victims of violence. During the conference, they will receive an award.
Addressing the issue with different perspectives overturning the original approach is the way of the project PRIVATE that, by inquiring about gender violence and femicide, puts the audience in front of installations, videos and photographs created specifically for this exhibition. Speakers at the conference with a specific focus on the exhibition curator Federica Mariani, the creator of the project and the artist Federica Amichetti anemone.
