The City of the Liri Iisola is pleased to present part of the celebrations of the day of 1 May, in collaboration with Blink Photo School and Arch. Lucia Gabriele, the group exhibition The women's blood. traces of red on white cloth, an art project curated by Manuela De Leonardis and Rossella Alessandrucci (organization La Stellina art including contemporary art) was born from the accidental discovery of "linen cloths" that, until the mid-twentieth century, they were used by the women during the menstrual cycle.
The diapers were delivered to 30 international artists: Yasue Akiyama, Manal AlDowayan, Wafa Bahai, Alessandra Baldoni, Tomaso Binga, Rosina Byrne, Joan Caimmi, Karmen Corak, Vlasta Delimar, Kristien De Neve, Diana Maria, Isabella Ducrot, Maimouna Guerresi, Susan Harbage Page, Sasha Huber, Hanako Kumazawa, Silvia Levenson, Anja Luithle, Patrizia Molinari, Elly Nagaoka, Sonya Orfalian, Anna Romanello, Ivana Spinelli, Paola Romoli Venturi, Virginia Ryan, Ketty Tagliatti, Judy Tuwaletstiwa, Laura Facchini BSI, Maria Angeles Vila, Ruchika Singh Wason.
The project was also attended by the artist Mirella Bentivoglio, the journalist and writer Rita Boini, criticism of arteJerica Ziherl, the expert ethnologist in Japanese language and literature Maria Cristina Gasperini, the psychoanalyst junghianoAlberto Massarelli and the specialist in gynecology and obstetrics Stefano Barchiesi.
The artists have used the language most congenial to them to investigate the many historical, social, psychological, emotional and perceptual related to women: birth, puberty, pregnancy, menopause, violence, femicide.
Their works are pages of an intimate diary that talks about personal experiences or urges the memory by re-emerge from oblivion of the past characters who find their relocation in the present. anonymous stories, known stories, of ordinary everyday life stories, told in the first person with honesty and consistency, with no emotional flaws, sometimes resorting to metaphor, the irony power, the size of the poem.
Blood is certainly a recurring subject of contemporary art, alongside other bodily fluids such as tears, sweat, urine, saliva, semen. But if the male blood is the courage, the female implies shame, especially when menstrual blood. Basis of this insight contemporary artists recover instances feminists giving a strong dissenting value to their jobs, because the female body is the first place of social and political struggle for the affirmation of rights.
The women's blood. traces of red on white cloth intends to celebrate an event that perpetrates the origin of the world with the goal of being able to turn into excitement and vitality all traces of the female body contempt.
The exhibition project was the inaugural based International House of Women in Rome (30 October-13 November 2015) with an exhibition of the first 14 artists work and the publication of a catalog in Italian and was presented November 27, 2015 in Fil Rouge at the event, organized by the Italian Library of Bologna Women.
