On the eighth Day of the Contemporary promoted by AMACI, Calcagno Gallery is pleased to present its next exhibition. Two artists compared: Alain Rivière and Françoise Calcagno, who wonder about the meaning of each other's face.
The paintings proposed by Alain Rivière are part of the 24 series Faces of Luigi Nono: a tribute to the great Venetian composer, whose work has impressed and influenced the artist.
This series is a new stage of pictorial research on the head, especially on the face, Alain Rivière has undertaken a number of years. Since his first works in fact the artist was wondering about the portrait, intended as a field of research by no means exhausted, with much more to reveal. From this reflection, Alain Rivière has based his work on the paint ties, broken rice, comparison reports between the outside world - the faces visible - and the inner world - everything is in the head. Following this approach, abstained from portray particular people: its faces are anonymous and are part of attendance primitive, stripped of its own characteristics, but it does not prevent the emergence of strong expressions. In this research framework, body and mind are in constant contact: outside (contours, shapes, the openings of the face such as the eyes, mouth, ears) and internal (thoughts, bones, brain and all other elements of the body) become the aim of painting, to renew our view of the world, sometimes known, sometimes unknown.
Different and complementary research is to Françoise Calcagno, which exposes a further study in the field of memory and the recovery of the past, here also fixed in the faces of this, among the multitude of matter and fields of color that lend support, you are wide faces very personal not completely revealed, creating an intimate and personal relationship with the audience, led by the hand to question the time and
the emotions aroused by the faces. "I asked myself what are the boundaries of the area and relationships with others and where they are physically located. One of the answers was: the territory is the mind, but the territory is also the body, and our other. What is the boundary of my relationship with each other and where is the place of this boundary, it is the mind or the body or are both? Linen, material, color are also "place", physical space, territory with limits, boundaries, space (black terminating right, signs, lace, photos), but in the end also embraces painting on canvas, include, not exclude. "
