The fascinating metamorphosis of a butterfly, the cruel elimination of the partner by the female spider, the natural fate of the mantis, destined to perish during mating. Are some of the subjects that inspired Consuelo Celluzzi's works exposed by Sunday, April 14 in his first SOLO SHOW Micro-Macro-Me at the Rebacco Wine + Art Showroom.
Consuelo, born in 1982, is a visual artist with good manual skills that have allowed her to engage in numerous techniques from an early age: from painting, drawing, mosaic from the stained glass windows to the fresco. After graduating from the Institute of Sacred Art Rome II, she began working in an art shop before moving to Panarea the opening of her first atelier. Artist characterized by a rebellious spirit and a restless spirit, who will regain peace of mind only after transfer in the British capital.
Her works externalize a fairytale universe fueled by childhood memories and curious extracts from magazines and newspapers. Ideas, halfway between pop and phantasmagorical, through which investigates the behavior and relationships between men. Every creation is born impulsiveness and spontaneity, as she said, "in the early stages of all my work I like to get my hands dirty in a visual disorder." A chaotic phase but necessary so that the original sketch acquires greater definition to the emergence of an order that reproduces the original idea. A working practice developed that enables she to establish a dialogue with the theme of the work and with herself.
For the occasion, Consuelo has realized the cycle Micro-Macro-Me consists of large format drawings resulting from reflections on the functions and roles played by insects in their complex hierarchical societies. Bewitched by this microcosm, where reigns an instinctive natural order of the individual that allows the efficient functioning of the group, the Roman observes similarities and differences between the deep and unconscious human being and pets, often hidden by labels, beliefs and taboos . Particular attention is paid to the need for individualism and ephemeral supremacy, innate in the individual, in order to induce the viewer to empathize and to reflect on these issues.
Graphic designs developed through the use of a mixed technique where, in addition to watercolor, to colored pencils and collage, the artist has experienced the stretch of the ballpoint pen. What emerges is an unusual vision in which the two worlds are joined, revisited and reinterpreted in a comic-comic, a feature that distinguishes the style of Consuelo.
Celluzzi Consuelo was born in 1982 in Rome and currently she lives and works in London.
