The event will take place on October 26 at 3:00 pm in the Val David church and admission is free.
For this presentation, Michel Gautier will be accompanied by dancers Michelle Bastien and Luc Boissonneault and by poet Gilles Matte. The four performers will move about in a forest of totem-trees installed on mirrors, accompanied by the scents of the Laurentian forest.
EX EGO addresses the problems caused by the chronic dissociation of man from the only milieu that knows how to shelter him, and questions our ability to challenge ourselves in the face of the ecological stakes. The title is wordplay on the meanings of ex aequo and ego. Humanity is “on the same page” while simultaneously everyone wants to make their name and create their identity. The Babel-totem, 4 metres high, is the central piece in the installation. It is an affirmation of the ego that is seeking to oversee nature. For 30 minutes, the public will watch and participate in the show. Audience members will then be invited to the Val David Exhibition Centre where at 4:00 pm they can meet the artists for friendly conversation.
