Founded and developed as a completely independent and self-financed exhibition, the Florence Biennale, under new artistic direction by Prof. Rolando Bellini. The focus of this edition is to “scan” the genetic code of Art, decoding one of its fundamental strands: Ethics.
Florence Biennale 2013 will be hosted by Fortezza da Basso, in the city centre, from November 30th to December 8th engaging hundreds of artists. This year Anish Kapoor and Franco Mussida will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement “Lorenzo Il Magnifico” award. In the past 2011 edition this award was given to Josè Luis Cuevas and Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. In previous editions the awardees included: Marina Abramovic, Shu Yong, Gilbert & George, Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Richard Anuszkiewicz, David Hockney and many others personalities.
More than ever, the rich array of events, involving in a fundamental way the entire city of Florence, with exhibitions, performances, and installations that will for the first time in the history of the Florence Biennale take place in different locations during the entire year in an ongoing dialogue between past and present in symbolic places representative of the "birthplace of the Renaissance". These events will also lead the way in a contemporary path towards the ten days of the Florence Biennale in 2013.
