Torototela multi-medial collective exhibition
Exhibitions, Italy, Venezia, 18 July 2013
The cultural association B-rain presents Torototela: multi-medial collective exhibition.
Intrigued and seduced by oral tradition in Venice, we chose to represent two old tales taken from
the book Misteri di Venezia, written by the Venetian author Alberto Toso Fei, whose main
characters are well-known Venetian artists.
The project is made of different parts tightly bounded together. We wanted to develop the subject
of narration through various artistic means and expressive languages.
The oral heritage has been copied out by Toso Fei so that it will not be forgotten; this body has
been depicted onto the big sheets of the Torototela book. The artist Alexandra Darie dealt with an
original artistic writing technique, totally hand-made, in order to portray the tales we chose.
Ten illustrations comes along and describes the text; these creations raise from the combined
skills of nine young artists, who bring their personal and original effort. The images have been
crafted thanks to different painting techniques, whose combination gives birth to several outcomes,
page after page. The act of flipping through the pages is matched with Alessandro Valentini's
voice, which carries us to old times.
Another section of the exhibition is made up of video-art by the artist Ester Marano, whose creation
will give life to the exhibition's room, just like spirits live in old legends. Thus, the spectator is
surrounded by a dynamic work which takes over the spaces. Within the video-art, pictures will be
swapped with video interviews to Venetian people who briefly tells their connection with storytelling
and tales about the city they were born in. Moreover, the video-art presents a video
interview to Alberto Toso Fei.
Swapping across several artistic techniques is Torototela's keystone
Torototela’s keystone; the exhibition encloses principles and intents of the B-rain association: living
art as a meeting point, where everyone can share and confront with other individuals. Thus, art
becomes the foundation of a great new process, where people can make their own knowledge and
skills available to the world, and give birth to something unexpectedly distinctive and extraordinary
thanks to connections with the others.
Our gratitude goes to all the artists who believed in this project: Alexandra Darie, Antonino Busà,
Claudio Fabris, Davide Petraglia, Flavio, Francesco De Rosa, Giulio Federico, Maria Vittoria Piana
Brizio, Stefano Bullo, Veronica Ruffato, Ester Marano.
Thanks to Rubin Koldashi e Luan Koldashi who realized, in association with Giusi Tambè and
Alexandra Darie, the book’s framework and trestle.
We would also like to express our gratitude to Federico Ballarin, Gabriele Colussi, Ludovico De
Luigi, and Alberto Toso Fei who kindly answered our interviews; thanks to Cristina Torzo, Alessio
Bartoli and Enrico Masin who took part in the video shooting.
Last but not least, we would like to thank Fabio Cosimo who put together the soundtrack and to
Alessandro Valentini who performed the tales.
