ARTROOMS art fair makes that possible and invites guests to see how 70 artists have installed hotel rooms with their art.
ARTROOMS is an innovative concept of art exhibition that offers independent artists an opportunity to exhibit their artworks in an intimate dimension. The fair aims to redefine London’s art world by shortening the distance between artists, curators and visitors. Every artist gets one hotel room to turn it into a unique kind of exhibition place. The event runs from 21st to 23rd January at Melia White House Hotel beside Regent’s Park in London.
The Finnish contemporary artist Ulla Karttunen was selected for the ARTROOMS art fair. The fair shows works from 70 selected artists and 20 guest artists from 35 countries across Europe, Canada, USA, South America, Far East and Israel. The selection committee for this edition counted on art experts such as former S2 Sotheby’s Gallery’s Director Fru Tholstrup, multi-awarded YBA artist Gavin Turk, and art critic Michael Barnett, to name a few.
Karttunen’s multidisciplinary project Donna Criminale has been shown in many countries. The main figure of the project, Donna Criminale, a hanged madonna constructed of toilet paper, was last year seen in many different environments: at a gallery in Florence (exhibition Taboo), in a church in Portugal (exhibition ART-MAP) and in the National Museum of Algeria (exhibition Al-tiba9). The project also includes series of images, a performance and a book. - In ARTROOMS Karttunen concentrates on showing digitally and manually manipulated collages. Her digital images are also, at the same moment, on display in Electron Salon at Lacda (L.A. Center for Digital Art) in Los Angeles.
