Featherweight Portable Museum is a collaboration between artist-run organizations to show media art internationally. It aims to create a way to move around art without heavy bureaucracy and in which artist them selves are closely involved. This is done by asking artist-run organizations to participate in creating a collaboratory media-art show, where artists from their cultural areas are involved. The selection of the artists has been done by an open call in the organizations’ respective countries. From the submitted applications the organizations have selected the works that are featured in the show from the other organizations cultural area. This creates a show where media art from different parts of the world meet. This show is presented in each organizations own art space and, if possible, in other artist run spaces. Artists and the artist/curators involved in the events are invited to come and discuss their work.
The first Featherweight Portable Museum is being done in collaboration with Catalyst Arts. The first event was exhibited in Catalyst Arts, Belfast at 1.–16.12.2011.
Featherweight Portable Museum is a catalog of the artist and artist-run organizations that are involved in this venture. It is also an archive from which artist creating media art and artist run organizations can be found.
The concept of Featherweight Portable Museum was created by MediaPyhät-group in 2011.
