Biografia

Vineta Kaulača born 1971 in Riga. She studied at the Art Academy of Latvia, at the Humboldt State University in USA and the Berlin University of the Arts.

V.Kaulača is the nominee for the Purvītis Prize 2013 which is the most prestigious and the most substantial art award in Latvia supported by the SIA Alfor and the Latvian National Museum of Art. Also V.Kaulaca is the winner of the juried competition Centre-Periphery organized by Federculture Italia. She has been awarded numerous scholarships including: Arts Council England’s International Fellowship(UK); Art Hub artist residency, Abu Dhabi( United Arab Emirates); The Irish Museum of Modern Art, artist work programme (Dublin, Ireland); Triangle Artists Workshop, New York (USA); Cite Internationale des Arts residency, Paris ( France); Raid Projects, Los Angeles (USA); Braziers International Artists workshop, Oxfordshire ( UK).
Her professional interest is focused on the flow of time, on the movement that
is not perceptible in isolation from space, thinking about the different and the similar in various cultural experiences and taking travel as one of the ways for expanding this experience. Time and space per se are not visible – they sur-
face in the vision due to the changes, for instance, due to the movement or distance. Under certain conditions a movement in space may transform into a movement in time. Space for artist is not only a geographic size, but also includes the significance of psychological and cultural con-
texts. She has explored different techniques and materials: drawing, painting, photography and the synthesis of other art mediums (photography, installation), but the painting is most important for artist’s statement.
