The artist Birgitte Evelyn has always been fascinated by the human body.
Earlier she was one of Denmark’s finest bodybuilders; she made it all
the way to the top and became Danish and Scandinavian champion. However,
shortly after that achievement she chose to leave bodybuilding in favour
of fitness because this sport accentuates feminine body language rather
than massive muscles. And the women in Birgitte Evelyn’s paintings are
indeed extremely feminine. The female body is a pro-moter of pleasure
and desire, and Evelyn’s works reflect the intense sensuality and
eroticism which may develop out of the bond between two human beings.
The pictures are like a Chinese box where the mo-tive kindles a train of
thoughts, adding fuel to the fantasy.The feminine aspect is the cynosure
of all eyes, and Birgitte Evelyn has through a number of years created a
unique figurative mode of expression that offers a glimpse of the female
world of desire.
