Biografia
The work of Berlin based artist Romina Giuliani is characterized and created by mixed media artworks, drawings, photos and video. By contesting the division between the realm of memory and the realm of experience, she exploits images and situation as an act of meditation.
By taking private and public daily life as a subject matters her collect, alter views and own works are being confronted as interrelated material for research and projection.
She handles with images in the space in which fiction and reality meet, meanings shift, past and present fuse, exploiting often difficult social conditions.
Her works are given improper functions: significations are inversed and form and content merge.
Initially unambiguous meanings are shattered and disseminated endlessly.
By putting the viewer on the wrong track, she tries to create works in which the actual event still has to take place or has just has ended: moments evocative of atmosphere and
suspense that are not part of a narrative thread.
Through a singular approach she wants to amplify the astonishment of the spectator by creating several compositions or settings that generate poetic images, leaving traces and balancing on the edge of recognition and alienation.
Again and again, the artist leaves us orphaned with a mix of conflicting feelings and thoughts.
Her works are a drawn reflection upon the art of mixed media itself: thoroughly self-referential, yet no less aesthetically pleasing.
