Biografia
As a painter, I express my love of color, rhythm and design within traditional subjects. My goal is to capture spirit within form and to evoke in the observer a visceral sense of being in the painting. My intent is to awaken primal memories within the viewer, memories which connect the threads of life and weave the bonds of our common dreams. My works exalt the mundane and aggrandize the commonplace through color and composition choices; they combine subtle imaginative elements within a representational framework.
I execute my paintings in traditional oil media, most often developing each work gradually, using complex layering techniques. My color choices are influenced by historical palettes and draw from my fascination with luminous transparent glazes on the one hand, and my love of earth pigments on the other. My training in classical painting methods and materials is extended to allow myself the freedom to vary my approach in a contemporary, nuovo-classico direction.
